16-3-2024 (JAKARTA) The Indonesian coast guard announced on March 15th that a Taiwanese national, missing for several days following a passenger boat capsizing near Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, had been discovered deceased.
The tragic incident occurred on March 11th in the waters near the Kepulauan Seribu area of Jakarta, when a wave struck the vessel causing it to capsize. The boat, carrying 35 individuals, was swiftly engulfed by the sea.
While all other passengers were successfully rescued, the Taiwanese passport holder remained unaccounted for until the discovery of their body on March 15th.
“The body was found not far from the location of the capsized boat,” stated the head of the rescue team in an official statement.
The search for the missing Taiwanese citizen, identified as Shi Yi, aged 48, had been hindered by high tides, complicating rescue efforts in the tumultuous waters.
