26-5-2023 (Kuala Lumpur) Swiss watchmaker Swatch has confirmed that its Pride watch collection, inspired by the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) movement’s rainbow flag, has been confiscated only in one country worldwide, Malaysia. According to reports from Malay Mail and Oriental Daily, when asked if the Pride collection watches were also confiscated in other countries’ Swatch stores, a representative of the company responded, “No!”
According to Swatch International, the 2023 Pride watch collection was launched on May 4th. The promotional materials state that the six unique-colored watches represent the six colors of the pride flag, symbolizing all genders and races. “Pride Red” represents life and passion. “Pride Orange” represents healing and celebration. “Pride Yellow” represents sunshine. “Pride Green” signifies nature and growth. “Pride Blue” represents harmony. “Pride Purple” represents spirit.
Swatch International has declined to comment further on the confiscation of the Pride watches in Malaysia, stating that the matter is being handled by its legal department.
