13-2-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian police have detained a man in his 40s to assist with inquiries into an alleged road rage incident occurring along the North-South Expressway.
According to Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar, the arrest was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at 3:30 am on Feb 12 in Genting Highlands, Pahang.
“The team also confiscated a car,” Commissioner Kumar stated in a release.
The suspect is presently held under remand for three days until Feb 14, he further mentioned.
Commissioner Kumar specified that the case falls under investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief. If convicted, the suspect could face imprisonment ranging from one to five years, a fine, or both.
“We urge the public not to engage in speculation, which could impede the investigation. All road users are advised to exercise patience and consideration to ensure safety, particularly during the holiday season,” he emphasized.
Earlier, Johor police had reported that authorities were searching for the owner of a Singapore-registered car allegedly involved in breaking the window of another vehicle on the NSE.
Commissioner Kumar disclosed that a report was lodged at 2:36 pm on Feb 10, with a 54-second video capturing the altercation circulating widely on social media.
“Initial investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from the victim’s act of obstructing the suspect’s vehicle on the emergency lane along the highway. This action led the suspect, believed to be a foreigner, to express dissatisfaction and subsequently break the rear window of the victim’s car,” he detailed.
