27-4-2024 (BANGKOK) The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, is set to undertake an official visit to Thailand on April 28-29, following an invitation extended by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, announced government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke on Friday.
Accompanying the Sultan will be Prince Abdul Mateen, as confirmed by Chai.
During his visit, scheduled for April 29, the Sultan will hold a royal audience with Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida, as disclosed by Chai. Subsequently, he will engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Srettha at Government House, where the signing of two cooperation agreements pertaining to investment and tourism promotion between various agencies of both nations will take place.
Srettha will host an official luncheon in honour of the Sultan and the Brunei delegation, added Chai.
Thailand and Brunei Darussalam have maintained diplomatic relations since 1984. The forthcoming official visit by the Sultan marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Notably, the Sultan’s last visit to Thailand occurred 12 years ago.
Chai highlighted that the visit aims to bolster cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest, encompassing trade, investment, the halal industry, tourism, the digital economy, and people-to-people connections. Furthermore, discussions are anticipated to include regional cooperation and exchanges on international matters.
