25-8-2024 (SYDNEY) A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Sydney’s southern suburbs on Sunday morning, leaving four people hospitalised, including a police officer, following a chaotic car crash and subsequent stabbing spree.
The alarming sequence of events began at approximately 9am at the intersection of Princes Highway and Old Bush Road in Engadine. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle careening erratically through traffic before colliding with other cars, setting the stage for a terrifying ordeal.
According to a statement from New South Wales Police, responding officers arrived to find a man, who appeared to be suffering from stab wounds, attempting to flee the crash site. The suspect was swiftly apprehended with the use of a taser.
In the ensuing chaos, a male police officer sustained a severe laceration to his left wrist, believed to have occurred during the arrest. Additionally, a female passenger from the crashed vehicle was discovered with multiple wounds, while a fourth individual was also found injured, though their involvement in the incident remains unclear.
Steve Mace, chairman of the Cronulla Sharks NRL club, provided a harrowing first-hand account of the incident to The Daily Telegraph. Mace, who was en route to his son’s sporting event, described witnessing the crash and subsequently attempting to assist the victims.
“I heard the guy screaming in the car and then I heard his partner screaming even louder,” Mace recounted. “I tried to open the door and finally jammed it open. I saw him slashing her. Cutting her neck, her breast, across the stomach. Wherever he could go. I tried to get her out to stop the stabbing.”
Mace himself sustained a minor injury during his intervention, while another good Samaritan reportedly suffered a stab wound whilst coming to the woman’s aid. The NRL chairman described a tense “standoff” with the assailant before police arrived and deployed a taser.
The Princes Highway has been closed in both directions as authorities conduct their investigation, with motorists urged to avoid the area. NSW Ambulance paramedics were on scene providing medical treatment to all four injured individuals.
