7-8-2023 (BANGKOK) A shocking crime has unfolded on the picturesque island of Koh Phangan in Thailand, as a Spanish chef, Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, admitted to the killing and dismemberment of his Colombian lover, Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a cosmetic surgeon. The motive behind the gruesome act, according to police, was Arrieta’s threats to blackmail Bronchalo and tarnish the reputation of his family in Spain.
The grim discovery was made when trash collectors stumbled upon a black plastic bag containing human body parts at a garbage dump on Koh Phangan. DNA testing confirmed the remains to be those of Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, who had been previously reported as missing to local authorities.
In a disturbing revelation during police questioning, Bronchalo detailed the events leading up to the murder. He recounted how he had met Arrieta about a year ago after the Colombian reached out to him on Instagram. Their online interactions soon escalated to phone conversations and the exchange of private pictures.
Bronchalo confessed that he did not share Arrieta’s sexual orientation and was already in a relationship with a woman. Despite his attempts to end the affair, Arrieta persisted, threatening to expose their relationship and release private images on social media. He specifically targeted Bronchalo’s famous actor father and grandfather in Spain, vowing to unleash a scandal that would damage their reputation.
With these threats looming, Bronchalo hatched a sinister plan. He lured Arrieta to Koh Phangan under the pretext of attending the Full Moon party, booking hotel rooms and purchasing tools for his dark deed. On August 3, Arrieta arrived on the island, and Bronchalo met him at the pier. After leading him to a hotel room, Bronchalo incapacitated Arrieta with a punch to the face and proceeded to dismember his lifeless body.
Bronchalo then disposed of the body parts in a chilling manner, using a kayak to transport them to different locations at sea. He discarded some remains into the ocean and left the rest at a garbage dump on the island.
Police investigating the murder found incriminating evidence in the hotel room, including a substantial amount of US dollars and a gold necklace that belonged to Arrieta. Bronchalo’s confession and the evidence led to his arrest, and he was subsequently taken into custody pending further legal proceedings.
As the investigation continues, Arrieta’s relatives are expected to arrive in Koh Samui, while Bronchalo’s actor father plans to travel to Thailand to join the proceedings. Meanwhile, divers and rescue workers are conducting a search for additional body parts in the waters surrounding Koh Phangan, adding to the unsettling nature of this tragic incident.
