11-6-2023 (PHNOM PENH) In a shocking turn of events, the lifeless body of a well-known 33-year-old South Korean female live streamer was discovered wrapped in red fabric in a drain in Cambodia. The streamer had vanished from social media platforms since ceasing her live streaming activities in March. It wasn’t until recently that Cambodian authorities confirmed her identity. The investigation revealed that the streamer and her companion had traveled to Cambodia for leisure, but tragedy struck when she unexpectedly died after receiving treatment at a local clinic. The police swiftly apprehended a Chinese couple, who operated the clinic, in connection with the case.

According to reports from Rasmei Kampuchea Daily and Cambodia China Times, on the 6th of this month, Cambodian police found an unidentified female corpse covered in red fabric, discarded in a drain located in the suburban area of Phnom Penh and the Gandan Stung Sen district of Kandal province. The National Police instructed the local criminal police bureau to investigate the case, leading to the identification of the deceased as a 33-year-old woman of Korean nationality surnamed Byun. Acting under the guidance of the criminal police bureau, together with a special task force and local police in Phnom Penh, they were able to confirm that the suspects were a Chinese couple. The male suspect, named Lai, is 30 years old, while the female suspect, named Cai, is 39 years old. The couple operated the Bokang Clinic in the well-known BKK district of Phnom Penh. They admitted to the crime of discarding the body and will be transferred for legal proceedings in the near future.
According to the Chinese couple, on June 4th, the deceased visited their clinic for a drip and serum treatment. However, during the procedure, she suddenly experienced seizures and convulsions, leading to her untimely demise. After the woman passed away, the couple wrapped her body in a red cloth and placed it on a blue 2007 Toyota Prius, which they then drove to Kandal province to dispose of the body. However, according to a report by RSC on the 6th, the Korean woman’s body, during the forensic examination, showed severe signs of physical abuse on the face. The injuries were so severe that her facial features were barely recognizable. Other injuries included neck fractures, bruises all over the body, and burn marks. Additionally, a report in Rasmei Kampuchea Daily on the 10th indicated that the woman died suddenly from seizures while receiving an injection of saline solution or serum.
As early as yesterday (10th), Korean media outlets, including TV Chosun, reported on the news of the female live streamer’s death in Cambodia. The reports mentioned that the streamer had 150,000 subscribers on her channel, and her Instagram account had 250,000 followers. After analyzing the information, netizens confirmed that the deceased woman was the live streamer known as Ayeong (아영) on AfreecaTV, whose full name was Byun Ayeong. The local media in Cambodia also directly mentioned her name as BYIN A YEON in their reports.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today (11th) that they would provide diplomatic assistance to the deceased’s family, while the South Korean police have invited Cambodian authorities to assist in conducting a detailed investigation into the deceased’s traveling companion. The autopsy of the body is currently ongoing.
