28-11-2024 (BANGKOK) In a watershed moment for Thai gastronomy, Sorn has become the first Thai restaurant globally to receive the coveted three Michelin stars, as announced in Bangkok during the unveiling of the Michelin Guide Thailand 2025 on Wednesday.
The prestigious accolade marks a defining moment in Thailand’s culinary history, with Chef Supaksorn “Ice” Jongsiri’s southern Thai restaurant ascending to the guide’s pinnacle after maintaining two stars for five consecutive years. Housed in a traditional Thai residence off Sukhumvit Soi 26, Sorn’s elevation recognises its exceptional cuisine, which champions traditional southern Thai cooking methods and commands a set menu price of 7,200 baht.
The eighth edition of the guide showcases Thailand’s flourishing culinary landscape, featuring 462 establishments. Notable among these are seven two-starred venues, 28 one-starred restaurants, 156 Bib Gourmand recipients, and 270 Michelin-selected establishments.
This year’s guide introduces several newcomers to the starred ranks, with CĂ´te by Mauro Colagreco joining the two-star echelon. The one-star category welcomes four new entries: Akkee in Nonthaburi, known for its bold regional Thai dishes; Avant, helmed by a Singaporean chef blending traditional and modern techniques; Goat, offering an innovative fusion of Thai, Chinese, and Western influences; and Aulis in Phang-Nga, featuring a chef’s table concept showcasing local ingredients.
Coda, celebrating regional Thai cuisine with modern interpretations, earned its first star after promotion from the Michelin-selected category. However, the guide saw the departure of several previously starred establishments, including Sushi Masato, Canvas, Cadence by Dan Bark, and Khao Ekkamai.
The guide’s expansion into Chon Buri added 20 new establishments to its roster, including five Bib Gourmand venues and 15 Michelin-selected entries, further cementing Thailand’s position as a premier culinary destination in Southeast Asia.
For international diners eager to experience Sorn’s acclaimed cuisine, reservations open on the 15th of each month for the following month’s bookings, though securing a table at this newly minted three-star establishment is expected to become even more competitive following this historic achievement.
