17-10-2023 (BANGKOK) Soldiers from the army’s Pha Muang task force successfully seized over 12 million methamphetamine pills from two pickup trucks that had been abandoned by fleeing smugglers. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Wiang Haeng district, Chiang Mai.
The alert was raised when rangers noticed two suspicious pickup trucks parked in a garden along the Ban Mai Muang Jod road in tambon Piang Luang at approximately 5 a.m. It was observed that a group of 15 to 20 individuals were loading bags onto the back of the vehicles.
As the soldiers approached the scene, the men quickly dispersed, leaving the two loaded pickups behind. With the area secured, the authorities proceeded to inspect the vehicles and their contents.
It was discovered that there were a total of 61 rucksacks on the pickups, with each bag containing approximately 200,000 meth pills. This amounted to a staggering total of 2.2 million pills.
During the operation, one suspect was apprehended in the vicinity, increasing the chances of uncovering further details about the smuggling operation and those involved.
