7-12-2023 (TOKYO) In a recent announcement, Social media platform X revealed plans to hire engineers in Japan. The Chief Executive, Linda Yaccarino, stated in a post on Thursday that the company aims to establish an app development team focused on creating functions and advertising products tailored for the Japanese market.
Earlier reports from Nikkei highlighted Yaccarino’s statement that X intends to initiate the hiring of engineers in 2024. The proposed development team will be tasked with crafting a mechanism for low-cost advertisements, with a specific emphasis on tapping into the demand from small and midsize businesses in Japan.
X, which faced challenges in retaining advertisers since its acquisition by Elon Musk in October 2022, has witnessed a recent exodus of major brands, including Apple, Walt Disney, and Warner Bros Discovery. The concerns primarily revolved around the platform’s handling of antisemitic content.
In response to these challenges, Musk issued a “full apology on the issue and full explanation,” as reported by Nikkei. Yaccarino emphasized that X is committed to addressing inappropriate content and will reinforce its team in Japan accordingly.
The move to hire local engineers and establish a dedicated app development team underscores X’s efforts to navigate the Japanese market more effectively and regain advertiser trust amidst recent controversies. The success of these initiatives will be closely watched as X seeks to solidify its presence in the competitive social media landscape.
