10-3-2025 (BANGKOK) Krabi authorities have launched an investigation after a suitcase filled with high-quality, vacuum-sealed cannabis was discovered abandoned in a men’s restroom at Krabi International Airport. The suspicious find, reported by airport security on the night of Saturday, March 8, 2025, has raised concerns over attempted drug smuggling.
Security personnel were alerted to the unattended suitcase in a restroom located on the third floor near the entrance to the international terminal. The discovery was made under unusual circumstances, as the restroom door was locked from the inside, suggesting that whoever placed the suitcase there may have exited through an alternative route to avoid detection.
Upon opening the suitcase, police found seven vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing cannabis buds, with a total weight of 15 kilograms. Alongside the drugs, the suitcase also contained several items of clothing, including six light green sleeveless t-shirts and one white tank top.
Authorities suspect that the cannabis was destined for smuggling, with Singapore being the likely intended destination. The timing of the discovery has prompted investigators to scrutinise airport CCTV footage, particularly in the hours leading up to the last direct flight to Singapore, which departed at 11:30 p.m. on the same night. Officials believe that the smugglers may have abandoned the drugs in the restroom due to an unexpected complication or heightened security measures.
Krabi police have instructed their investigative team to work closely with airport security to track down those responsible. If successfully smuggled, the cannabis would have been worth a significant amount in the illegal market. Authorities are now focusing on identifying the individuals involved in the failed trafficking attempt, with legal action imminent once the perpetrators are found.
