15-1-2025 (MANILA) A Slovenian man faces murder allegations following the tragic death of his Filipino wife mere days after she relocated to the picturesque town of Bled, local authorities report.
The victim, identified as Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, was discovered deceased in a residential flat, having suffered fatal injuries from beating and stabbings. The incident occurred just seven days after her arrival in the Central European nation, where she had hoped to begin a new life with her husband.
Her spouse, Mitja Kocjančič, a local motivational speaker known for his work on mental health awareness and obesity struggles, has been detained in connection with the incident. Following his arrest, authorities transferred him to a psychiatric facility, citing his documented history of mental health concerns.
The couple’s whirlwind romance, which began in April 2024, led to their marriage in July of the same year. Facturan-Kocjančič arrived in Slovenia on 22nd December, but her life was cut short on 29th December following what witnesses describe as a heated domestic dispute.
The Commission of Filipinos Overseas, a Philippine government agency, has officially confirmed the death of their national. Meanwhile, Slovenian authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Whilst the suspect remains in custody, sources close to the investigation have yet to confirm whether formal charges have been filed. The case has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the Filipino expatriate population, highlighting concerns about the vulnerabilities faced by foreign brides in cross-border marriages.
Local authorities have indicated that further details will be released as the investigation progresses, with both Slovenian and Filipino officials closely monitoring the case’s development.
