20-11-2023 (BEIJING) A would-be burglar in Yunnan, China, recently found himself at the center of online ridicule after his attempted heist took an unexpected turn – he fell asleep on the job.
The intruder, identified as Mr. Yang, entered a home through an open window around midnight on November 8, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
Upon realizing that the occupants of the house were still awake and active, Yang, thinking on his feet, decided to retire to a separate room and wait for an opportune moment to proceed with his nefarious plans. However, instead of keeping a vigilant watch, he dozed off.
The homeowner, Mrs. Tang, was initially roused from her sleep by loud snores but attributed the noise to a neighboring household. Dismissing it initially, she continued with her night. It was only 40 minutes later, while attending to her child’s milk bottle, that Tang realized the snoring was emanating from within her own home.
Opening the door to the room, she was greeted by the sight of Yang peacefully slumbering on the floor. Swiftly, Tang exited the room and promptly alerted both her family and the local authorities about the unexpected guest.
Upon police arrival, Yang was apprehended, and it was revealed that he was no stranger to a life of crime. Having been convicted of theft in 2022, Yang had only been released from prison in September.
The amusing misadventure of Yang quickly gained traction on social media, with netizens seizing the opportunity to mock the would-be burglar for succumbing to sleep during his criminal endeavor.
“This is too funny. The thief brought the police to his doorstep,” quipped one social media user.
Another added, “If he was so tired, maybe he should not have ‘worked’ overtime.”
A third pondered, “I wonder what the sentence is for breaking into a home and not stealing anything?”
