3-1-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR) A heartbreaking incident in northern Malaysia has resulted in the death of a young girl after a tragic accident involving household furniture at her residence in Taman Perumahan Nibong Tebal, Penang.
The six-year-old victim suffered fatal injuries when her neck became entrapped between metal components of a collapsible table whilst playing unattended at her family home. The distressing discovery was made by her elder brother at approximately 16:15 local time yesterday.
According to Superintendent Chong Boo Khim, chief of the Seberang Perai Selatan Police District, the child’s mother immediately rushed her to Parit Buntar Hospital. Despite medical intervention, the young girl was pronounced dead at 00:30 this morning.
Post-mortem examination results revealed that cerebral hypoxia due to asphyxiation was the primary cause of death, as confirmed by hospital authorities.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The case is being pursued under Section 31(1)(a) of Malaysia’s Child Act 2001, which addresses child neglect. If convicted, offenders face severe penalties including a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to two decades, or both.
Local media outlet Harian Metro reported that the child was engaging in solitary play when the fatal incident occurred.
