26-8-2023 (SINGAPORE) Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is set to embark on an official three-day visit to Vietnam in response to an invitation from his counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, as confirmed by Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday (Aug 26).
The reciprocal visit comes following Mr. Chinh’s trip to Singapore in February, which saw both nations signing several significant agreements, including those pertaining to the green-digital economic partnership and maritime cooperation.
PMO stated, “The exchange of PM visits coincides with the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations and the 10th anniversary of Singapore’s Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.”
From August 27 to August 29, Mr. Lee will be in Hanoi, where he is scheduled to meet with Mr. Chinh, as well as other prominent Vietnamese leaders, including Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue. An official dinner hosted by Mr. Chinh will also be part of the visit.
Among the highlights of the visit is the participation of both prime ministers in an event centered around the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP). They will witness a virtual ground-breaking ceremony for several VSIPs and the issuance of investment licenses for new VSIPs.
Accompanying Mr. Lee on the trip will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, and Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng.
In the Prime Minister’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will take on the role of Acting Prime Minister.
