15-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, five Singaporean nationals, along with a family member, were among the individuals evacuated from Israel through a military transport flight organized by the South Korean government.
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed the participation of the five Singaporeans in this evacuation effort. The flight, which departed from Tel Aviv on Saturday, was initiated to ensure the safety of these individuals.
Throughout the duration of the conflict, MFA has been actively providing consular assistance to Singaporeans residing in both Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The ministry stated, “The Singapore embassies in Tel Aviv and Seoul worked closely with their host governments and Republic of Korea embassy counterparts to facilitate the Singaporean families’ departure from Tel Aviv to Seoul and their safe return to Singapore.” In this context, South Korea was referred to by its official name.
The Singaporean government expressed its profound gratitude to the Republic of Korea for their role in facilitating the secure evacuation of Singaporean citizens.
On Friday, South Korea’s Air Force utilized a KC-330 multipurpose aircraft for the evacuation operation, a development that was shared on their Facebook page on Saturday. This aircraft, which left Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on the following day, transported a total of 220 individuals, including 163 South Korean citizens. Among those evacuated, there were 51 Japanese citizens.
Previously, the MFA had advised Singaporean nationals residing in Israel and the Palestinian Territories to make immediate arrangements to depart through commercial means. The advisory also emphasized that Singaporeans should refrain from any non-essential travel to Israel due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
