31-10-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Two Singaporean men, aged 26 and 29, along with a 34-year-old Malaysian woman, have been implicated in the murder of a 25-year-old Malaysian man during the early hours of Friday, October 27, 2023.
According to a report by China Press, the older Singaporean man, who faces two charges, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of RM12,000 (S$3,446) – RM7,000 (S$2,010) for one charge and RM5,000 (S$1,436) for the other.
After being released from remand on October 30, his next court hearing is scheduled for December 13. Dressed in a black shirt, he appeared in court in Johor Bahru on Monday morning.
The first charge against the Singaporean man alleges that he was under the influence of drugs while driving, causing a Singapore-registered car to crash into the fence of the Johor palace at approximately 5:35 am on October 27. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of seven to ten years and a fine ranging from RM30,000 to RM50,000.
The second charge states that he is suspected of drug consumption, which carries a potential prison term of up to two years or a fine of RM5,000.
Upon the reading and interpretation of both charges, the accused pleaded not guilty in court. His lawyer referred to previous cases and requested more lenient bail conditions. Bail was granted after two judges heard the separate charges, with the accused being required to report to the police once a month and have two bail guarantors.
Background:
The Malaysian man was allegedly assaulted outside a KTV nightclub in Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru, around 3 am on October 27. Despite attempting to escape, he was pursued and repeatedly stabbed by an assailant. The victim was discovered with multiple stab wounds on his chest, stomach, ribs, shoulder, back, fingers, and cheek. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries, and his body was later covered with a white cloth.
The alleged perpetrator fled the scene, prompting Malaysian authorities to launch a search for the murder suspects. During the investigation, their attention was drawn to a “suspicious” Singapore-registered Audi sedan. The vehicle, driven by one of the Singaporean men and carrying two passengers – another Singaporean man and a Malaysian woman – veered into the opposite lane, colliding with two oncoming cars before crashing into a section of the Johor palace’s gates.
All three individuals were apprehended on suspicion of involvement in the murder of the 25-year-old Malaysian man. The police confiscated a knife and three mobile phones, among other items. Subsequent drug tests revealed that all three tested positive for methamphetamine.
The father of the deceased Malaysian man expressed his belief that his son was wrongfully killed. Media reports indicated that the Malaysian woman allegedly had connections with both the deceased and one of the Singaporean men.
