28-10-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Two Singaporean men have been apprehended on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a 25-year-old man in Johor Bahru. On the morning of October 28, they were brought to court in Johor Bahru, along with a Malaysian woman who is also under arrest in connection with the alleged murder.
The trio’s arrest stems from an incident involving a traffic collision in the early hours of October 27. According to The Star Online, Johor Bahru South police chief Raub Selamat reported that the three suspects were taken into custody following the collision.
Raub shared information about the collisions in a media statement on the night of October 27, 2023. The male driver of a Singapore-registered Audi sedan was apprehended by the police on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In a second media statement two hours later, Raub disclosed details about the alleged murder of a 25-year-old Malaysian man through stabbing. The investigation unveiled a link between the murder case and the preceding collision.
The same Audi driver and the two passengers onboard, a Singaporean man and a Malaysian woman, are suspected of being involved in the murder of the Malaysian man. The Singaporean men in question are aged 26 and 29, as reported by China Press.
Raub revealed that all three suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, and among the items recovered from the arrest site was a knife.
The sequence of events, according to Raub, began with a member of the public alerting Johor Bahru South police to a confrontation involving multiple men and a sharp weapon at 3:41 am. China Press reported that the altercation allegedly transpired outside a KTV nightclub in Johor Bahru.
The deceased Malaysian man, discovered at the scene, had sustained a total of nine stab wounds to various parts of his body. Police were subsequently informed that the three suspects involved were in the Jalan Tanjung Puteri area at around 5 am.
Upon locating the Audi, the police attempted to investigate, but the vehicle fled until reaching Jalan Tun Dr Ismail, as per The Star. The Audi lost control and skidded, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. A dashcam video shared on Facebook purportedly captured the aftermath of the collision, depicting the overturned Audi with its rear bumper dislodged, and items strewn on the road, including several shoes.
The three suspects were brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court on the morning of October 28, as reported by Chinese media Shin Min Daily News. The suspects exhibited no signs of concern about media presence and did not avoid cameras awaiting them outside the court. In fact, one of the Singaporean men reportedly urged the media to photograph him. The trio will remain in custody as investigations continue.
