15-9-2024 (BATAM) In a deeply disturbing case that has shocked both Indonesian and Singaporean communities, a 50-year-old Singaporean man has been apprehended by Batam police on charges of repeatedly sexually abusing his 16-year-old stepdaughter over a two-year period. The arrest, which took place on 7 September, has brought to light a harrowing tale of prolonged abuse and domestic violence.
The case came to the attention of authorities in Sekupang, a district of Batam, following a report filed by a 40-year-old woman, identified as a friend of the victim’s mother. According to police statements, the mother had reached out to her friend for assistance in escaping an abusive household situation, citing frequent violent behaviour from her husband.
During the subsequent investigation, the teenage victim revealed the extent of her ordeal, alleging that her stepfather had subjected her to sexual abuse on numerous occasions. The gravity of these allegations prompted immediate action from local law enforcement.

Acting on the report, Batam police conducted a raid on a residence in Mutiara View, where they arrested the suspect, identified only by the initials AH. The arrest yielded several pieces of evidence, including a novel titled “Letters To Penthouse XXX” and a sex toy, as documented in photographs shared by local media outlet Batam Pos. Additionally, two mobile phones and a Singapore passport were seized during the operation.
In a chilling revelation, police investigators estimate that the alleged sexual assaults occurred approximately 120 times since 2022, with the most recent incident reported to have taken place on 3 September, just days before the suspect’s arrest.
The case has been classified under Indonesia’s child protection laws, with the suspect facing charges under Articles 81 and 82. These statutes specifically address sexual offences against minors, carrying severe penalties upon conviction.
Sekupang Police Chief, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is a matter of utmost concern as it involves sexual violence against a child. Our department is fully committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.”
