13-4-2024 (SIGNAPORE) In a momentous achievement, a Singaporean has been bestowed with a prestigious accolade upon completing his course at the esteemed British military institution.
Junior Under Officer Q F N Tang was awarded the International Sword for the Best International Cadet at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, marking a significant recognition of his dedication and excellence.
Expressing his gratitude, Cadet Tang emphasized the significance of the award, stating that it holds immense value as he represents his homeland on an international platform.
The announcement of this honour for the Singaporean cadet was made by Sandhurst through a Facebook post on Wednesday (10 April). The post detailed that Officer Cadet Tang, hailing from Singapore, emerged victorious among 26 international cadets from his course, earning the esteemed International Sword for his outstanding performance.
In an interview from Sandhurst’s Old College Parade Square, Cadet Tang conveyed his pride in winning the award, underscoring the significance of being able to bring such recognition home to Singapore.
The course at Sandhurst spans 44 weeks and encompasses rigorous training in military and leadership skills. Established in 1947 through the amalgamation of two venerable military academies, The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst serves as the premier officer training centre of the British Army.
International students, selected by their respective defence organisations, are afforded the opportunity to undergo training at Sandhurst. Over the years, the academy has welcomed 5,400 international students from 129 countries.
The culmination of the course is marked by the Sovereign’s Parade, a ceremonial event that signifies the completion of the Commissioning Course. During this grand occasion, top cadets are honoured with prestigious awards such as the Sword of Honour, the Overseas Sword, and the Queen’s Medal.
The Sovereign’s Parade, where Cadet Tang received his award, took place on Friday (12 April) UK time, with the ceremony streamed live on Facebook for those eager to witness this remarkable moment.
