9-11-2023 (SINGAPORE) In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, Singaporean law enforcement apprehended seven individuals for suspected drug offences during two operations on Tuesday. The operations also resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 2,452 grams of heroin and 198 grams of methamphetamine, commonly referred to as Ice.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) revealed on Thursday that the confiscated drugs had an estimated street value of $319,000 and could potentially sustain the addiction of approximately 1,280 drug users for a week.
The first operation conducted on Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of four men, aged between 40 and 58, for suspected drug offences in the vicinity of Eunos Crescent. Additionally, law enforcement officers seized 35 grams of heroin, 21 grams of Ice, and various drug-related paraphernalia.
During the same operation, a 53-year-old man was taken into custody, and upon escorting the authorities to a nearby residential unit, they uncovered 596 grams of heroin, 80 grams of Ice, and further drug-related paraphernalia.
In a separate operation, another 68-year-old man was apprehended near Boon Keng MRT station, with 17 grams of heroin discovered in his possession. Subsequently, a 67-year-old man was arrested in the vicinity of Bendemeer by CNB officers. The search of the man’s hideout at a nearby residential unit led to the recovery of 1,804 grams of heroin and 97 grams of Ice.
It is worth noting that anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15 grams of diamorphine or pure heroin may be subjected to the mandatory death penalty in Singapore.
The CNB has emphasized that investigations into the suspects are still ongoing, underscoring the government’s commitment to combatting drug-related activities in the city-state.
