7-6-2023 (SINGAPORE) Singaporean actor-comedian Mark Lee recently caused a stir among fans when he took to Instagram on Tuesday (Jun 6) to share a photo of what appeared to be a script with the title ‘Number 1 2’.
In the caption accompanying the photo, Mark wrote, “I’ve been waiting for a long time. I just got it. It’s still warm.” The image also revealed part of director Ong Kuo Sin’s name, who directed the original film that featured Mark in the role of a drag performer. Fans quickly speculated that this cryptic post implies Mark’s return for a highly anticipated sequel to his acclaimed movie ‘Number 1’, which even earned him a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards.
The teaser ignited excitement among fans, who eagerly expressed their anticipation for the sequel’s release. Adding fuel to the fire, production company mm2 Entertainment shared Mark’s post on their Instagram story with the accompanying sticker ‘Coming Soon’. Released in 2020, the first installment of ‘Number 1’ follows the journey of Chow Chee Beng (played by Mark Lee) as he transitions from being retrenched as a manager to becoming a drag performer at a local drag club.
Mark’s powerful and heartfelt performance in the film garnered widespread acclaim upon its release. The movie even received two nominations at the 2020 Golden Horse Awards, ultimately winning the award for Best Makeup and Costume Design.
