5-7-2023 (SINGAPORE) K-pop enthusiasts in Southeast Asia now have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the learning curriculum of their beloved idols, courtesy of a groundbreaking collaboration between the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) and Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC). The newly established SOPA-SRMC will mark Singapore’s inaugural K-pop international high school.
SOPA, renowned for nurturing talents like BTS’ Jungkook, Blackpink’s Jisoo, and Ive’s Wonyoung, has joined forces with SRMC to offer students from Southeast Asia, primarily Singapore, a specialized K-pop education. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was recently signed in Seoul, where SOPA Principal Hosung Lim expressed his pride in the global recognition of their educational achievements through this collaboration. He emphasized their commitment to enhancing SOPA’s reputation as an exemplary institution, specializing not only in K-pop within Korea but also overseas.

According to the press release jointly issued by SOPA and SRMC, the partnership aims to identify talented students from Southeast Asia, primarily Singapore, and provide them with an immersive K-pop education. These students will have the opportunity to refine their skills and receive mentorship while being exposed to a rich blend of regional influences. Additionally, SRMC will facilitate admissions for Korean students aspiring to study abroad.
SOPA-SRMC will conduct all classes in English and implement a curriculum taught by faculty members from SOPA’s Education System department. This curriculum will seamlessly integrate elements from both the Korean and Singaporean educational systems.
Ryan Goh, Executive Director of SRMC, acknowledged the remarkable accomplishments of the School of Performing Arts Seoul in producing globally recognized graduates. He expressed excitement about the unique opportunity to bring specialized performing arts education from Korea to Singapore and Southeast Asia. Goh emphasized the exceptional value of industry-focused education, which will undoubtedly propel the regional industry forward. Currently, the audition process for enrollment in SOPA-SRMC and the detailed curriculum are yet to be announced.
