7-8-2024 (SINGAPORE) As Singapore gears up to celebrate its 59th birthday on Friday, hotels in close proximity to the Padang – the venue for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) – are experiencing a significant uptick in room bookings. Some establishments report increases of over 20 per cent compared to the previous year, highlighting the event’s draw for both locals and tourists alike.
The Fairmont Singapore and Swissotel The Stamford, offering prime views of the Padang, have capitalised on their advantageous locations. Mr William Haandrikman, managing director of both hotels, emphasised the unique appeal: “From all our rooms with balconies, you can see the Padang and the fireworks. The government’s decision to hold eight practice days is something unique to Singapore, allowing everyone a chance to experience the celebrations.”
These hotels have strategically launched room packages that include dining credits, tapping into the demand generated by the numerous NDP rehearsals and preview shows held over the past two months. The packages offer guests the opportunity to witness fan-favourite events such as the Red Lions parachutists and the aerial display from a privileged vantage point.
The trend extends beyond these establishments, with other nearby hotels reporting similar surges in bookings. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and the Fullerton Bay Hotel have noted a 10 per cent increase in reservations from both local and international guests compared to the previous year. Local demand has been particularly strong, with bookings spiking by nearly 20 per cent during preview show weekends.
Mr Lee Kin Seng, director of marketing communications at The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts, Singapore, attributes this boost partly to their National Day-themed activities and a special hawker series. “We’ve noticed tourists seeking more than just cookie-cutter experiences,” Mr Lee explained. “We’ve introduced elements like a Peranakan costume experience and a dinner buffet featuring specialties from six guest hawkers to cater to this demand for authentic local experiences.”
The Fullerton Hotel is also hosting its first major National Day celebration at the Clifford Pier, featuring performances by local singers Jack and Rai. This expansion of offerings comes in response to customer feedback, with Mr Lee noting that last year’s “very basic buffet spread” has been significantly enhanced for this year’s celebrations.
