15-11-2023 (SINGAPORE) Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam has expressed Singapore’s intent to bolster security collaboration with France and incorporate cutting-edge technologies into the Home Team’s operations. The minister made these statements during his visit to Milipol Paris 2023, a premier homeland security exhibition held from Nov 14 to 17.
While touring the Singapore Pavilion at the exhibition, Shanmugam engaged with a delegation of scientists and engineers from the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX). He highlighted the existing collaboration between Singapore and France in the realm of security and emphasized the critical role of technology in addressing security challenges, citing the establishment of HTX as evidence of Singapore’s commitment.
The minister stated to The Straits Times that the Singapore delegation aimed to deepen security ties with France and explore the latest front-line technologies adaptable for use by the Home Team.
Milipol Paris 2023 boasts over 1,100 exhibitors from 48 countries, with key partners including the French National Police and Interpol. The showcased technologies encompassed armored vehicles, firearms, artificial intelligence systems, robots, and drones.
HTX, at the invitation of France’s Ministry of Interior, set up the Singapore pavilion as a prelude to Milipol Asia Pacific – TechXSummit, scheduled for Singapore in 2024. Minister Shanmugam extended an invitation to France’s Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, to participate in the Singapore event.
The Singapore pavilion, themed “Exponentially Impacting Singapore’s Safety And Security,” featured HTX’s industry partners ST Engineering, Singtel, and NCS. It showcased innovative technologies, including the Next-Generation Clearance Concept, enabling seamless immigration clearance through sensors and cameras. Singtel’s Quantum-Safe Network, designed to protect networks from cyber attacks using quantum computers, was also presented.
HTX’s Chief Executive, Chan Tsan, emphasized the importance of collaborating with international partners to enhance Singapore’s science and technology capabilities in homeland security. By showcasing transformative solutions on the global stage, HTX aims to expand networks and contribute to Singapore’s homeland security ecosystem.
