27-11-2023 (SINGAPORE) In an unconventional twist on wedding traditions, a couple in Singapore recently celebrated their union with a unique KFC-themed ceremony, complete with a fried chicken bouquet and the fast-food chain sponsoring a portion of their wedding expenses.
Choosing an unusual venue, the couple exchanged vows in a ballroom at a SAFRA clubhouse, opting to serve KFC to their guests. The choice, as revealed, was a reflection of the couple’s shared love for the popular fast-food chain.
The bride, Ms Wong Liang Le, shared images of their distinctive celebration on Facebook, describing it as the “KFC-themed wedding of her dreams.” Buffet tables laden with KFC’s famous fried chicken were showcased in a video, capturing the couple’s unconventional yet memorable choice.
A standout feature of the wedding was the bridal bouquet, which departed from tradition by consisting not of flowers but of fried chicken. Following the custom of tossing the bouquet, the bride playfully threw the tasty arrangement to a friend.
The remarkable event unfolded after Ms Wong, 32, reached out to KFC while preparing for her wedding. Expressing her fondness for KFC, she hoped to incorporate the fast-food chain into her nuptials in some way. To her surprise, KFC not only responded but also decided to sponsor half of the wedding expenses, amounting to S$2,300.
Ms Wong, who is confined to a wheelchair due to a medical condition affecting her brain’s blood vessels, impressed KFC with her inspiring story. Despite her health challenges, she managed to establish a dropshipping business, earn a double degree in accounting and business, and complete the Chartered Accountant Professional Diploma Course (ACCA) last year.
The KFC manager revealed that the sponsorship included providing fried chicken and unique decor for a photo backdrop. The gesture was a token of appreciation for Ms Wong’s loyalty to the brand.
The groom, Mr Xie Peng, a 40-year-old software engineer, wholeheartedly supported the unconventional wedding concept, given their shared affinity for KFC. Remarkably, their first date took place at a KFC outlet, a choice that Mr Xie appreciated for its simplicity and authenticity.
Their love story, which began with fried chicken, exemplifies that a successful match requires compatible hearts and a shared love for the simple pleasures in life.
