12-8-2024 (SINGAPORE) Singapore Airlines (SIA), the flag carrier of the island nation, has announced a significant expansion of its flight frequencies and passenger capacity to key global destinations for the period between March and October 2025. This strategic move, revealed in a press release on Monday, is aimed at addressing the surging demand for air travel to popular locations worldwide.
In a notable boost to its European network, SIA will enhance its London service by increasing flights to Gatwick Airport to a daily schedule from 30 March 2025, up from the current five-times-weekly offering. This adjustment, combined with the existing four daily flights to Heathrow Airport, will result in SIA operating an impressive five daily services to the United Kingdom’s capital.
The airline is also bolstering its presence in other European cities. Rome will see an increase to five weekly flights between 26 June and 28 August 2025, while Milan and Barcelona will benefit from more direct connections. SIA plans to decouple its current Singapore-Milan-Barcelona route, opting instead for five weekly direct flights to Barcelona and daily services to Milan during the peak summer season.
In Australia, Adelaide will receive a substantial boost with flights increasing to 10 times a week across the Northern Winter 2024 and Northern Summer 2025 seasons, commencing from late October 2024.
Southeast Asian destinations are not left out of this expansion. Ho Chi Minh City will see services increase to thrice daily, while Siem Reap will enjoy twice-daily flights, up from its current daily service.
Africa is also on SIA’s radar, with flights to Johannesburg set to increase to 10 times a week during peak periods in the 2024-2025 schedule.
However, it’s not all expansions. SIA announced the suspension of its services to Houston via Manchester from 1 April next year, though it will maintain a five-times-weekly service between Singapore and Manchester.
Aircraft changes are also part of the airline’s strategy. Tokyo’s Narita Airport will see one of its two daily services operated by an Airbus A380 for a two-month period, replacing the smaller Boeing 787-10. Conversely, Mumbai and Delhi will see the A380 replaced by the Boeing 777-300ER on select dates.
Dai Haoyu, SIA’s acting senior vice president for marketing planning, emphasised the airline’s commitment to aligning capacity with demand. “These adjustments, ahead of next summer, cater to the higher demand to several destinations, particularly during the traditional mid-year peak travel season, enabling our customers to confidently make their 2025 travel plans,” he stated.
