4-10-2023 (BANGKOK) A chilling shooting incident has left multiple people injured and a 14-year-old boy under arrest, after the teenager went on a shooting spree at the popular Siam Paragon shopping mall in the heart of Bangkok. The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the city, with concerns raised about the suspect’s young age and privileged background.
At approximately 4:40 pm local time on October 3rd, authorities received reports of an armed assailant firing shots at a crowd inside the mall. Witnesses described a scene of panic, with shoppers fleeing for their lives as the gunman fired multiple rounds. Law enforcement quickly cordoned off the area and apprehended the suspect in a furniture store on the mall’s third floor, where he surrendered without incident.
As images and videos of the incident began to circulate on social media, speculation about the gunman’s identity began to surface. The suspect’s student ID and identification card were shared online, leading to confirmation from the prestigious Essence School that the teenager was indeed one of their students.
In a statement issued on October 3rd, the director of Essence School, Wiwat Catithammanit, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed that the suspect was enrolled at the school. The institution, which charges a tuition fee of US$4,000 per semester (approximately HK$31,000), is considered one of Thailand’s top private schools.
Essence School has pledged their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation and urged the public to respect the privacy of the suspect and his family.
