20-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A shocking incident unfolded as a woman was fatally attacked with a machete by a man in front of a premises on Jalan Raja Uda.
The victim, aged 42, sustained severe injuries to the back of her neck and shoulder in the incident around 11:10 a.m. She was rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) before being reported dead approximately 50 minutes later. The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was also involved in the incident.
The man fled the scene on a motorcycle, pursued by onlookers who witnessed the attack. He later jumped off the Penang Bridge but was successfully rescued by fishermen before being handed over to the police. Currently, he is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The entire incident was captured on nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and quickly circulated on social media, sparking reactions from netizens. Various speculations regarding the identities of the victim and the suspect emerged. The police, however, confirmed that the victim was, in fact, related to the suspect.
Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie, Chief of the North Seberang Perai District Police, stated that the investigation revealed the deceased woman was the suspect’s aunt. The suspect is currently in remand at the hospital, and the police are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
“This is a tragic incident, and we are working to unravel the motive behind the suspect’s actions,” said Asst. Comm. Mohd Asri Shafie.
