15-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a fascinating TikTok video posted by user @bifoty_camper on September 1st, viewers were treated to a spectacle of coins—50 sen coins to be precise. The video showed the user struggling to pour the coins from a massive 19-litre water bottle, owing to their sheer volume. Only a trickle of coins emerged from the bottle’s opening. To access the coins, a saw was enlisted to cut the bottle open, resulting in a cascading waterfall of coins. The video concluded with a shot of neatly stacked 50 sen coins.
The caption accompanying the video revealed an astounding seven-year effort. The user, Muhammad Hafiz Abdul Hamid, had diligently collected 50 sen coins since 2016, amassing an impressive total of RM5,360. He also disclosed that it took four people approximately three hours to count the coins.
In an interview with mStar, Hafiz explained that what began as a hobby turned into a remarkable achievement. He initially stored the coins in mugs and snack containers, but as their numbers grew, he transferred them to the 19-litre water bottle featured in the video. Hafiz credited his substantial coin collection to a unique method: he helped friends exchange their excess coins for RM10 or RM50 notes.
Hafiz was astonished when he realized the sum he had accumulated, and he decided to reward himself by purchasing an iPhone 14 with the cash he had saved. However, the process of converting the coins into cash was an arduous one, requiring visits to six different banks due to the large quantity of coins, which could potentially damage the counting machines.
When asked if he would embark on another coin-saving endeavor, Hafiz expressed reluctance, citing the exhausting nature of the process.
