23-6-2023 (JAKARTA) The Semeru volcano, located in the Indonesian province of East Java Island, erupted in the early hours of Friday, prompting authorities to issue warnings and advise residents to steer clear of the eruption area.
Standing at an impressive height of 3,676 meters above sea level, the volcano remains at the third level of danger, below the highest level of IV.
According to reports from the Semeru Volcano Monitoring Post, the volcano experienced a total of 12 explosions on Friday. One notable eruption occurred at 1:43 a.m., resulting in the ejection of hot ashes that reached a distance of 3.5 kilometers from the crater, specifically towards the southeast direction. Ghufron Alwi, an officer at the Semeru Volcano Monitoring Post, provided this information.
In light of the eruption, authorities have urged the public to maintain vigilance and avoid the southeastern sector within a 13-kilometer radius and a five-kilometer radius around the summit. These precautions aim to prevent any potential hazards associated with an eruption.
It is worth noting that the eruption of Mount Semeru in December 2021 had significant consequences. Tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes, and tragically, more than 50 lives were lost.
