21-5-2023 (SINGAPORE) A 26-year-old salesman who is suspected of stealing luxury watches worth approximately S$1.6 million from the Orchard Road watch shop where he was employed is set to be charged in court on Monday (May 22), according to authorities.
The suspect is also alleged to have misappropriated “large sums of money” from individuals who had entrusted him with funds to purchase luxury timepieces, the police stated on Sunday.
Following a police report filed on Saturday, the man was apprehended, and subsequent investigations uncovered that he had received the funds from victims between September 2022 and May 2023.
Authorities believe that the accused pawned the watches he had allegedly stolen. So far, the police have managed to recover 23 watches with an estimated value of S$900,000.
The man will face charges of criminal breach of trust by employees, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
