28-5-2023 (BANGKOK) – A tragic incident unfolded yesterday as a Russian man drowned while swimming in the sea off the coast of Patong Beach. The drowning was reported to the Patong police station at 7.55 am, according to Bangkok Post. Rescue workers, lifeguards, and personnel from Patong Hospital immediately responded to the scene in an attempt to save the man.
Despite their dedicated efforts to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the man could not be revived. The man’s wife, who was also a Russian national, informed the police about the incident. The couple had been staying at a hotel near the beach and decided to take an early morning swim.
Tragically, Pavel Rafaylovich, 53 years old, swam approximately 7 kilometers away from the shore, where he encountered strong waves and began struggling. Recognizing the danger, his wife called for help, prompting the swift response of lifeguards who entered the water to bring him back to the shore. Despite their valiant efforts to resuscitate him, they were unable to save his life, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
