14-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Superstar Jacky Cheung, known as the Hong Kong God Of Songs, demonstrated his dedication to his fans as he carried on with his concert tour in Malaysia despite facing health challenges. The legendary singer commenced his six-night Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour on August 11 at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Jalil. However, during his performance on the third night, which took place on August 13, the 62-year-old artist lost his balance and fell on stage while singing his hit song “Just Want To Spend My Life With You.”
Despite the unexpected incident, Cheung’s professionalism shone through as he quickly regained his footing and continued to deliver the performance. The sold-out arena witnessed his resilience as he gracefully bowed apologetically to the audience.
Local Chinese media reported that Cheung had been experiencing discomfort prior to his stage appearance, but his determination led him to proceed with the scheduled show. The singer later revealed that he has been dealing with Meniere’s disease since his youth. Meniere’s disease is an inner ear disorder known to cause bouts of dizziness, or vertigo, along with hearing loss.
Addressing the incident, Cheung explained that he felt dizzy just before the concert on the previous day, but this was the first time it occurred during a performance. He shared his strategy of partially closing his eyes to counter the dizziness while singing. Acknowledging his audience’s importance, he added, “I am not happy if I can’t see you, and you will feel uncomfortable if I keep closing my eyes.”
Chinese media also reported that a relapse of Cheung’s health issue resulted in an eight-minute delay to his Saturday concert, occurring just half an hour before showtime.
Videos capturing the moment of his fall have circulated online, prompting an outpouring of support and well-wishes from his dedicated fanbase. Despite the setback, Cheung is resolute in his commitment to his audience and is scheduled to perform three more shows in Kuala Lumpur over the upcoming weekend.
