9-11-2023 (NAYPYIDAW) The President of military-led Myanmar has expressed concerns over the escalating violence in the country’s border regions with China, stating that it poses a significant risk of tearing the nation apart due to inadequate management.
Since seizing power in a coup in 2021, the Myanmar junta is now confronted with its most formidable challenge to date, as revolutionary groups and ethnic armed forces launch attacks on numerous junta bases across the north, northeast, northwest, and southeast regions of the country.
During a meeting of the national defence and security council, Mr. Myint Swe, the President of the State Administration Council, emphasized the urgent need for effective management of the incidents transpiring in the border areas. He warned that failure to do so could result in the fragmentation of the country into various parts. In light of the critical juncture faced by the state, he called upon the entire populace to rally behind the Tatmadaw (the military) and extend their unwavering support.
The junta has already lost control of several border trade towns with China in the northeast, further exacerbating the precarious situation. Additionally, the Chinese government recently confirmed reports of casualties among its citizens as a result of military ordnance crossing the border.
The situation in Myanmar remains highly volatile, with the military-led government struggling to maintain control amid widespread opposition. The international community closely observes these developments, as the outcome will have far-reaching implications for the nation and its people.
