11-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Celebrated actress Michelle Yeoh, renowned for her Oscar-winning performances, is on the cusp of achieving yet another remarkable milestone. She has been selected as one of the candidates nominated for membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Yeoh’s inclusion in this prestigious list comes as the IOC’s executive board identified eight exceptional individuals for this esteemed role. All nominees have undergone rigorous integrity checks conducted by the IOC Ethics Commission to ensure their suitability for this crucial position.
IOC President Thomas Bach expressed his enthusiasm for the selected candidates, emphasizing the invaluable contributions they are poised to make to the committee. He underscored the diverse expertise and experiences they bring from various fields, all rooted in their shared passion for sports and their unwavering commitment to the Olympic values and ideals championed by the IOC.
Bach also reaffirmed the IOC’s dedication to gender equality by proudly announcing that four out of the eight candidates are women. This move is a significant stride towards bolstering the representation of women within the committee, with women now constituting 41.1% of the council’s membership.
Joining Michelle Yeoh as nominees for IOC membership are Yael Arad from Israel, Balazs Furjes from Hungary, Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta from Peru, Michael Mronz from Germany, Petra Sorling from Sweden, Jae Youl Kim from Korea, and Mehrez Boussayene from Tunisia.
