9-3-2024 (JAKARTA) In a significant development for Indonesia’s 2024 General Elections (Pemilu 2024), the re-voting process for the entire Kuala Lumpur area will be held on March 10 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in the Malaysian capital. This announcement comes from the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which shared the details on its official Facebook page.
According to a poster accompanying the post, the re-voting process will commence at 8 am and continue until 6 pm local time. The exercise will involve a total of 22 polling stations and 120 mobile ballot boxes, ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.
The embassy clarified its role in the elections, stating, “The embassy of the Republic of Indonesia has received an official notification from Central Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) regarding the 2024 Election Rerun Poll in Kuala Lumpur. The embassy in Kuala Lumpur is not the organiser of the 2024 election. The organiser is the KPU and Bawaslu (General Election Supervisory Body).”
Meanwhile, the KPU, in a separate post on its Facebook page, quoted the statement of its head, Hasyim Asy’ari, confirming that Bawaslu has proposed the re-voting process to be carried out in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Indonesian media reports, the re-voting exercise will involve 62,217 registered voters, with 42,372 individuals casting their ballots at the WTC and 19,845 individuals participating through mobile ballot boxes at 120 locations across the city.
The decision to conduct a re-vote in Kuala Lumpur comes in the wake of election violations discovered by Indonesian police. Investigations revealed data manipulation and forgery carried out by seven members of the Kuala Lumpur Foreign Election Committee, prompting the authorities to take swift action to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
