27-3-2025 (MANILA) A metropolitan police officer finds himself at the centre of a grave legal battle following a deadly traffic dispute in Old Balara, Quezon City. The incident, which claimed one life and left another person seriously wounded, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
PEMS Randy Enano Tuzon, 48, a law enforcement officer stationed at Batasan Police Station 6, stands accused of murder, attempted murder, and violations of firearms regulations and electoral codes. The charges stem from a violent confrontation that unfolded on Tandang Sora Avenue during the evening of 20 March.
The tragic chain of events began when Tuzon’s Mitsubishi L300 nearly collided with another van of the same make, driven by Ronnie Casero Borromeo, 42, who was accompanied by Reynaldo Hagos, 51. What started as a heated verbal exchange escalated dramatically when Borromeo reportedly struck Tuzon with a steel pipe, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit chief Police Maj. Don Don M Llapitan confirmed that Borromeo succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at Diliman Hospital within two hours of the incident. His companion, Hagos, sustained gunshot injuries to his left hip and thigh and received treatment at East Avenue Medical Center.
In a statement addressing the incident, Acting Director Police Col. Melecio Buslig, Jr of the Quezon City Police District expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished the surviving victim a swift recovery. He emphasised the force’s commitment to impartial justice, particularly in cases involving police personnel.
The accused officer, a resident of Barangay Kaligayahan, voluntarily surrendered to authorities immediately following the shooting. The case highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and the devastating consequences of road rage incidents in the metropolitan area.
