10-8-2023 (MANILA) The grief-stricken mother of the minor tragically killed by Navotas police in a case of mistaken identity is set to be repatriated from Qatar, as confirmed by the Department of Migrant Workers on Thursday.
Rodaliza Baltazar, who has been grappling with the heart-wrenching news of her son Jemboy’s demise, sought assistance for her return home after learning of the unfortunate incident on August 2. The Philippine National Police described the fatal shooting as a regrettable error.
Presently, Baltazar finds herself in the safe confines of the DMW’s office in Doha, awaiting her flight back to the Philippines. According to DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia, Baltazar had been leading a life on the run in Qatar, working odd jobs and evading Qatari authorities after fleeing from her employer last year.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the DMW, in conjunction with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, will extend financial support to Baltazar, providing her with P100,000. These agencies have also undertaken the responsibility of covering her repatriation expenses and the subsequent funeral and burial costs for her son.
The fateful incident that claimed young Jemboy’s life unfolded when Navotas police were in pursuit of a suspect linked to a shooting incident. The law enforcement officers believed the individual was hiding on a boat. Amidst the unfolding chaos, the police mistakenly identified Baltazar as the target of their manhunt, a grievous error that has prompted outrage and condemnation.
