14-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) Another incident of public urination has been reported at Tanah Merah MRT Station, prompting swift action from transport authorities.
The incident, captured on video and shared on social media platform Facebook by “Tiagongsg” on Monday morning, shows a man in red attire and dark trousers relieving himself in a corner of the station platform. The footage reveals the perpetrator repeatedly glancing around nervously before hastily departing the scene.
SMRT Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ngien Hoon Ping, condemned the act in response to media queries. “Such behaviour is entirely unacceptable and poses significant hygiene risks to our commuters whilst degrading our public facilities,” he stated. The transport operator has since filed a police report, with investigations currently underway.
This incident marks the second such occurrence within a mere three-day span, following a separate case at Outram Park MRT station. In that instance, 41-year-old Li Guorui was charged for urinating on an escalator handrail at Exit 3 around 10:03 pm last Friday. Li is scheduled to enter his plea on Tuesday.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken a stern stance on these incidents. In an official statement, the authority expressed strong condemnation of such anti-social behaviour and pledged to collaborate with law enforcement to pursue maximum penalties for offenders.
