3-10-2023 (BANGKOK) Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced on Monday that he would engage in further discussions with Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput to align their perspectives on the country’s economic, financial, and monetary affairs.
Following their meeting, which lasted for 45 minutes, Mr. Srettha, who also serves as the finance minister, revealed that they had both agreed and disagreed on various issues but refrained from providing specific details.
The prime minister stressed that these talks would occur regularly and emphasized that the government’s implemented policies would remain unchanged.
“There’s no conflict, and we discussed every issue,” stated the prime minister.
Mr. Srettha expressed his appreciation for the opinions put forth by Mr. Sethaput.
When questioned by the media about any particular concerns regarding the weakening baht, Mr. Srettha responded that he was concerned about any factors that impacted people’s livelihoods.
Additionally, Mr. Srettha took to X (formerly Twitter) to mention that the meeting with Mr. Sethaput had been productive and that such discussions would be held on a monthly basis.
The meeting, held at Government House, occurred amidst reports of a potential disagreement between the prime minister and the central bank governor regarding the government’s controversial 10,000-baht digital wallet program, which was a significant campaign promise of the Pheu Thai party.
