29-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that his visit to Istana Negara was part of his routine weekly post-Cabinet briefing. When questioned about whether his audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah touched on the subject of a Cabinet reshuffle, he indicated that it was merely his regular weekly meeting with His Majesty, as reported by Bernama.
Anwar mentioned, “Perhaps I’ll think about it later. There is no urgent need because there is only one vacancy,” referring to the post of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister. This portfolio had been previously held by Amanah’s Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who tragically passed away in July due to a brain haemorrhage.
This morning, Anwar’s arrival at Istana Negara intensified speculation about an imminent Cabinet reshuffle. Anwar and his entourage were seen entering the palace gate at approximately 10:45 a.m. The Prime Minister traditionally meets with the King on Wednesdays before the weekly Cabinet meeting, making his audience on Friday a matter of keen interest.
