25-4-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim categorically refuted speculations of plans to establish a casino in Forest City, Johor, asserting that such claims are unfounded.
“Not true, not true. Casino licence⦠That’s a lie,” Anwar affirmed, gesturing with an X sign, while addressing reporters.
Anwar’s response came in the wake of inquiries regarding Malaysia’s purported contemplation of granting a second casino licence for the Forest City development in Johor.
Earlier reports by Bloomberg suggested that Anwar had engaged in discussions last week with Vincent Tan, the founder of Berjaya, and Lim Kok Thay, from the Genting Group, regarding the matter.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg, the introduction of a casino would potentially inject new life into the US$100 billion property venture.
