15-4-2024 (SYDNEY) A horrifying incident unfolded on Monday evening as a priest was allegedly stabbed multiple times while conducting a Mass service at a church in Sydney’s suburbs, merely days after a shocking rampage at a local shopping centre left six people dead.
Disturbing visuals from a live-streamed video appear to show the traumatic attack on Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel as he led prayers at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley. Footage captures a young man, clad entirely in black clothing, approaching the 64-year-old priest at the altar before repeatedly stabbing him in the face and body amid screams of terror from horrified onlookers.
Parishioners’ attempts to intervene were in vain as the assailant continued the frenzied stabbing assault. The live YouTube feed broadcasting the Mass service was abruptly cut off in the midst of the chaotic scene.
New South Wales police have confirmed they are responding to the church incident which occurred just after 7pm local time. Authorities have not yet released further details on the victim’s condition or provided any information about potential motives behind this latest act of violence.
