20-7-2023 (BEIJING) China’s President Xi Jinping had a meeting with the renowned US diplomat Henry Kissinger in Beijing, as reported by state media on Thursday (Jul 20).
The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, according to CCTV. However, specific details about the discussions were not disclosed.
During his visit to Beijing, the 100-year-old Kissinger also held meetings with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and Chinese defense minister Li Shangfu in the past few days.
Henry Kissinger served as US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor during the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. He played a pivotal role in diplomatic efforts to normalize relations between Washington and Beijing in the 1970s.
While the US government acknowledged Kissinger’s trip to China this week, it clarified that he was not representing the US government during his meetings.
Notably, Kissinger has made regular visits to China since his tenure in office.
