6-6-2024 (JAKARTA) In a bold move that underscores his unwavering commitment to Indonesia’s ambitious new capital city project, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has declared his intention to commence working from Nusantara in July. This declaration comes amidst concerns over the future of the development following the unexpected resignations of senior executives overseeing the $32 billion (S$43 billion) initiative on the island of Borneo.
During an Instagram post on June 5, President Widodo confidently stated, “God willing, in July, I will start working from the new capital city.” He further revealed that preparations are well underway to commemorate Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day in the fledgling city in August, a symbolic gesture that carries immense national significance.
Addressing concerns raised by the recent leadership changes at the helm of the Nusantara project, President Widodo dismissed any doubts, asserting that progress on the first phase of infrastructure development has reached an impressive 80 percent completion rate. This revelation serves as a resounding affirmation of the government’s commitment to realizing this ambitious endeavor.
The President’s visit to Nusantara on June 5 was marked by a hands-on inspection of the development’s progress, during which he also launched the construction of additional buildings, further solidifying the nation’s determination to see this project through to fruition.
While the unexpected resignations of the head and deputy head of the body overseeing the planned new capital on June 3 raised concerns about potential impacts on investor sentiment, President Widodo’s decisive actions and unwavering stance have effectively quelled such apprehensions.
