2-9-2023 (JAKARTA) Indonesian President Joko Widodo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on September 6, on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
The meeting between President Widodo and PM Trudeau is set for 6 p.m. local time at the Presidential Palace, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi after attending the opening of the 2023 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS).
PM Trudeau is among the heads of state and government that President Widodo will meet bilaterally, including leaders from Japan, South Korea, China, and Australia.
The 43rd ASEAN Summit will be held in Jakarta from September 5 to 7 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.” The summit discussions will primarily focus on economic cooperation.
Indonesia has received 13 requests for bilateral meetings with President Widodo during the summit, including meetings with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and leadership from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The summit will be attended by at least 22 countries, including 11 ASEAN countries, Timor Leste as an observer, and nine dialogue partner countries. Notable attendees include United States Vice President Kamala Harris, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Russia, an ASEAN dialogue partner, will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
With the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,” Indonesia aims to ensure ASEAN’s continued relevance in addressing global challenges and promoting regional stability and peace through strengthened cooperation.
