In addition to meeting with Xi Jinping, Retno explained that President Jokowi will also engage in business meetings with numerous prominent entrepreneurs in China.
Furthermore, President Jokowi, along with several other heads of state, is expected to attend the opening of the World Student Olympics to be held in Chengdu. The student Olympics were originally scheduled for 2021 but had to be postponed twice due to COVID-19.
In July 2022, President Jokowi also visited China as part of his official visits to three East Asian countries, namely China, Japan, and South Korea.
During the meeting in July 2022, Jokowi and Xi Jinping expressed their commitments to strengthen mutually beneficial economic cooperation between their respective countries and the region as well as the world. The two leaders also discussed issues related to the G20 and ASEAN.
Indonesia and China have a close economic partnership. According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the total trade between Indonesia and China in 2022 reached 133.5 billion US dollars. The trade value between the two countries has shown a growth trend of 17.69 percent in the last five years.
