28-9-2023 (MANILA) President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took the lead on Wednesday, September 27, in launching the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD).
The grand unveiling of this strategic plan took place during a ceremony at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila. President Marcos was joined by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, United States Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson, and Economic Development Chief Arsenio Balisacan.
In his speech, Marcos emphasized that the NIASD contains the blueprint for accelerating the nation’s innovation governance and cultivating a culture of innovation among scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, engineers, and citizens.
The President noted that this document reflects a strong commitment to integrating innovation into the national agenda.
The National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) issued a statement, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the document, which outlines the country’s vision and long-term goals for innovation. It serves as a roadmap and strategic guide to enhance innovation governance, deepen and expedite innovation efforts, and facilitate the integration of public-private partnerships in advancing innovation.
The NIASD is in alignment with Republic Act 11293, also known as the Philippine Innovation Act. President Marcos officially approved the NIASD on June 30, 2023.
The Neda disclosed that the NIASD outlines plans spanning from 2023 to 2032. Under the theme “Reshaping the Future, Advancing Filipinnovation,” the launch event witnessed the presence of over 700 guests, including Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa and Neda Chief Arsenio Balisacan, among others.
