16-2-2024 (JAKARTA) The Indonesian Election Commission declared on Friday, February 16, that Defense Minister Prabowo is leading the presidential race based on 50% of the votes counted. With 56.89% of the votes, Prabowo is enjoying a substantial lead over his two rivals, eliminating the need for a second round of voting.
As of Friday morning local time, Anis, the former head of the Jakarta Special Administrative Region, secured 25.27% of the vote, while Ganchar, the former governor of Central Java Province, trailed with 17.84%.
The presidential and parliamentary elections were held on Wednesday, February 14. Preliminary results from various polling agencies indicated that Prabowo and his running mate, Gibran, obtained over 50% of the vote, positioning them to secure victory in the first round. Gibran, the current mayor of Solo, is also the eldest son of the incumbent Indonesian President, Joko Widodo.
